Genre: Contemporary Romance

Teague O’Malley hates pretty much everything associated with his family’s name. And when his father orders him to marry Callista Sheridan to create a “business” alliance, Teague’s ready to tell his dad exactly where he can stuff his millions. But then Teague actually meets his new fiancée, sees the bruises on her neck and the fight still left in her big blue eyes, and vows he will do everything in his power to protect her.

Everyone knows the O’Malleys have a dangerous reputation. But Callie wasn’t aware just what that meant until she saw Teague, the embodiment of lethal grace and coiled power. His slightest touch sizzles through her. But the closer they get, the more trouble they’re in. Because Callie’s keeping a dark secret-and what Teague doesn’t know could get him killed.

My Review

I’ve never read a mafia romance before but I’ve been really enjoying Katee Robert’s books so I gave this one a try. And I’m so glad I did! I actually really enjoyed The Marriage Contract and while a few parts were out of my comfort zone I loved the high emotional stakes. There are three ruling families in Boston and a war is brewing between them. These are not good people per se, but there is an unusual honor among the children of each of the family heads. The O’Malley family is by far the largest and each of the siblings is so different that I’m really curious to get their stories. The heads of the families are brutal and ruthless but their children want more than just violence. It was a very interesting dynamic and not what I was expecting for a mafia romance.

“I might not have been the one to choose you, but you’re mine, Teague O’Malley, for better or worse.”

I think the success of The Marriage Contract comes from our main couple, Callie and Teague who I really enjoyed. They both want to protect their families but they also desire to leave the mafia life behind if only it were possible. Both sides have secrets and those secrets could destroy the very alliance they’re working toward. The drama was on fire throughout this book! Teague and Callie are used to making sacrifices for family so they’re willing to agree to an arranged marriage but once they meet, the chemistry burns hot and fast. I loved these two together! Teague is a natural protector and he quickly considers Callie worthy of his protection. He’s alpha and tough but also so gentle with Callie. While Callie doesn’t necessarily need protection she does need someone who’s on her side unconditionally. Both Teague and Callie really just need someone who accepts them for who they are.

I’m excited to read the rest of the series and very curious about each of the O’Malley siblings. My first mafia romance was definitely a success though I’m sure this series will continue to challenge my comfort zone.
