Happily Ever After Book Nerd Favorite
Lethal Pursuit by Kaylea Cross
Bagram Special Ops #3
Pararescue jumper Jackson Thatcher has been watching Security Forces Lieutenant Maya Lopez and she’s like no woman he’s ever met before. On a humanitarian mission to the local Afghan villages, the team is ambushed and Jackson and Maya are taken hostage along with the Secretary of Defense. Maya knows she has to do everything she can to stay strong in captivity but she doesn’t want to lose the man she’s coming to love.
Wow! Lethal Pursuit was such an intense read but it was the kind of suspense romance that I absolutely love to just devour. This is definitely in my favorites so far by Kaylea Cross and since I just started reading her books late last year, I can’t wait to get to more. While the focus is largely on the suspense side of the story, I enjoyed it so much because the intensity was just so high and watching Maya and Jackson survive their captivity had me on the edge of my seat. Cross does an amazing job setting up a story and creating truly awful villains that you just get sucked in from the beginning.
We first met Maya and Jackson back in the first book of the series, Deadly Descent, and the two have been circling each other and their attraction for a little while. I loved that Maya was such a strong and independent woman who’s not afraid to go after what she wants. She’s had a hard and devastating past and she doesn’t let go of control ever so this initially causes some bumps in their growing relationship. I enjoyed watching Maya learn to trust Jackson and realize that with the right person, you can let go and still be safe. Jackson was the perfect hero for Maya because he respects her strength and loves her for who she is. Jackson is definitely the strong, silent type and he just gives off this really sexy vibe without even doing anything. On top of that, you know you can depend on him and he’ll always be there when you need a shoulder to lean on.
There was a bit of set up for the next book and it has me really intrigued because I’m just loving this series so much!
5 stars – loved it!

Security Forces Lieutenant Maya Lopez is right at home in a war zone: she’s been fighting all her life. A hard-won commission in the air force has brought her to Afghanistan, and if she plays her cards right, she could end up with an FBI job. It won’t be easy, but that just makes her more determined.
Jackson Thatcher is a protector in all senses of the word. A pararescue jumper with Southern-boy charm, he easily captures Maya’s interest, but her trust is another story. He’s sexy, strong and caring, but she makes it clear she’s no damsel in distress. She’s never relied on any man, and she’s not about to start now.
When Maya and Jackson become pawns in a radical warlord’s deadly game, they find themselves on the run and must depend on each other if they want to make it out alive.
