April 2: Things That Make Me Pick Up a Book
There are so many different books out there to choose from and it can often be a daunting task to find the next book to read. Every reader is also attracted by different things, whether it’s the cover art, the book description, or something else. So what makes this reader pick up a book?
Eye Catching Covers
It doesn’t have to be super bright or super sexy, but it does need to stand out in some way from the hundreds of other books sitting next to it.
There are certain tropes (fake relationships, friends to lovers) that will get me every time and I’ll give that book a chance no matter what.
Everyone has different opinions about books, but there are some readers that I’ve come to realize have very similar tastes to me. When they love a book, there’s a good chance I’ll love it too.
The back cover blurb is often my go-to for determining if I’ll like a book. What’s included in that description can make or break it for my interest level. So don’t bury the lead on those descriptions!
I love when an author takes something familiar and turns it on it’s head and gives me something different. I’ll usually take a chance on these because I want to see what unique ideas they have.
Every reader has authors they love and will read anything they write and I’m no exception. I have a lot of auto-buy or auto-read authors that I excitedly read in the first week of publication.
I have a problem and it’s called the 99 cent sale on Amazon. Oftentimes I’ve nervous to try a new author but I want to give them a chance. Sales (of any kind) are always a great opportunity to try something new and see if I like it.
I spent my teen years devouring paranormal young adult books and most of my first adult romance novels were about vampires so I definitely have a soft spot for these paranormal creatures.
Another thing I’m a sucker for in romance is the bodyguard plot line. I don’t know what it is exactly but I just love these stories; maybe it’s the forced proximity of the situation, or the tension and danger, but either way, I’m all about these books.
10 is hard and I’m out of ideas
I honestly can’t think of a tenth reason, so I apologize to the gods of Top 10 but I’ve only got 9 this time.
