Shattered Vows by Kaylea Cross
Crimson Point #3
Jase Weaver fell in love with Molly Boyd the first time he saw her but unfortunately it wasn’t mutual. Instead, Molly married Jase’s best friend and he’s spent years pushing aside his feelings and being there as friend. After the tragic death of Molly’s soon to be ex-husband, Jase can’t keep his feelings a secret any longer. Shattered Vows frustrated me in all the best ways because I wanted the character to be together and be happy but the world just kept throwing obstacles in their way.
From the very beginning of this series, we’ve followed Molly’s tragic journey as she and her husband dealt with his traumatic brain injury and increasingly erratic behavior. With divorce papers on the table, Molly suddenly finds herself a widow and it’s her friends that she leans on for support. I really admired Molly’s strength to get through everything thrown at her; she handles it all with grace, dignity, and grit. I wasn’t sure how the issue of guilt would play into the story but I thought that Kaylea Cross handled Molly’s emotions and concerns really well. I also loved the deep friendship Molly has with Sierra and Poppy and how much we saw how important that friendship was.
Watching Jase deal with his long held feelings for Molly was so heartbreaking because you could tell how much he cared for her and how much he was willing to sacrifice for Molly. We so often see books with the heroine pining for the hero so I liked that Shattered Vows was the opposite. I loved Jase’s steadfast and dependable personality and the way he’s always looking out for Molly. He makes her feel safe and I think it just took time for Molly to see how much he cared for her beyond friendship.
I do wish that Molly and Jase could have figured things out faster because once they get together they have such amazing chemistry. Jase’s playful and charming way was exactly what Molly needed to move forward with her life. This wonderful and emotional romance blended perfectly with the suspenseful side story and I can’t wait for more in this series.
