Dance All Night by Alexis Daria
Dance Off #2.5
Contemporary Romance

Last year’s New Year’s Eve kiss with Nik Kovalenko has stuck with dancer Jess Davenport but she’s not interested in someone who’ll be gone on tour all the time. But when Nik comes back to Los Angeles for the holidays and bets Jess he can make her fall in love with the season in three dates, she can’t resist spending time with him.

Dance All Night was the classic holiday romance featuring a Christmas loving hero and a Grinch heroine who prefers to spend the holidays completely alone. Overall, this was a quick, easy read but I think I’m just not that invested in holiday themed books. I also felt that being  novella was actually a detriment to this book because a lot of events are highlighted over and I didn’t completely believe that Jess could make such a turn around so fast.

While the story didn’t work out for me I did love the characters and thought they were well developed and interesting. I adored Nik for being a genuinely nice and charming guy who’s up front about what he wants. He used to love adventure and traveling but the past year has taught him that he’s ready to settle and have something real. Nik never forgot Jess and he wants to take a chance with her and he’s willing to make the commitments needed to make it work. Jess didn’t grow up with the best examples of love and after some crappy relationships as an adult she doesn’t trust men to stick around. She worries that Nik will get another broadway offer and end up leaving her too. I really felt for Jess’s upbringing and how it affected her as an adult. It takes her a while to realize that some of her pain comes from intentionally pushing people away but once she does come to terms with this and she’s open and honest about what she wants. Nik and Jess were a great couple and I just wish I could have enjoyed their story more.

Book Details

Broadway hotshot Nik Kovalenko is a confirmed bachelor.

Ballroom champion Jess Davenport is a bona fide Scrooge.

Last year, they shared a midnight kiss at a New Year’s Eve party that made both of them believe—briefly—in the magic of the holiday season. The magic was cut short when Nik went on tour the next day, but he never stopped thinking about that kiss—or Jess.

When the holidays roll back around, Nik runs into Jess again. He doesn’t want to spend another year pining for the Scrooge who got away, so he tells Jess he’ll stay if she’ll give him a shot at being her Christmas Present.

Jess thinks he’s full of it, but she agrees to three dates. If Nik can make her believe in holiday magic in a place as un-wintery as Los Angeles—and convince her that he’s ready to stick around—she’ll give him a chance. But he won’t know until New Year’s Eve. If she kisses him at midnight, he’ll have his answer…
