Fighting for What’s His by Laura Kaye
Warrior Fight Club #2
Billy Parrish would do anything for fellow Army Rangers even though he’s no longer in the military so when his friend Ryan asks if his sister can stay with Billy until she finds a her own place in DC he says yes immediately. It’s been years since he’s seen Shayna Curtis and now that she’s all grown up he can’t help but be attracted. But Billy has his own demons and even his Warrior Fight Club isn’t helping him control them anymore.
I really loved Fighting for What’s His because it features Laura Kaye’s classic humor and witty banter between the hero and heroine. Shayna grew up around brothers so she’s a bit of a tom boy and she knows how to handle her own with friendly insults. And boy those insults and creative curse words had me laughing out loud! I adored Shayna and wish she was real so we could be friends. She’s the perfect match for Billy who can go between charming to brooding depending on the day and Shayna seems to know how to handle both.
Billy does struggle mentally and emotionally throughout the book due to a very serious injury that ended his military career. He still has nightmares, hates fire, and his self-confidence is a bit dented. Warrior Fight Club is Billy’s saving grace but as he begins to fall for Shayna, he gets himself pretty mixed up. He wants to be with her but he also doesn’t want to disrespect her brother who asked him to look out for her. He’s also not the best at expressing his emotions and internalizes everything so makes some incorrect assumptions based on Shayna’s behavior. While Billy has to overcome his demons they don’t overwhelm the whole story; I was happy that this book wasn’t as troubled and heavy as the previous one.

Resisting her only makes him want her more…
Private investigator Billy Parrish is good at three things—fighting, investigating, and sex. MMA training with the other vets in the Warrior Fight Club keeps his war-borne demons at bay—mostly, and one night stands ensure no one gets too close. But then his best friend from the Army Rangers calls in a favor.
Shayna Curtis is new to town, fresh out of grad school, and full of hope for the future. With a new job starting in a month, she’s grateful when her brother arranges a place for her to stay while she apartment hunts. But she never expected her roommate to be so brooding. Or so sexy.
Billy can’t wait for Shay to leave—because the longer she’s there, the more he wants her in his bed. To stay. He can’t have her—that much he knows. But when fight club stops taking off the edge, Billy lets down his guard…and starts fighting for what’s his.
