Book Blogger Inside Tag
I saw this tag on cupcakesandmachetes and liked that it was about blogging and not just what books I’ve been reading (I talk about that enough already). I’m still fairly new to the blogging experience but I’ve really enjoyed it and have no idea why I didn’t try this sooner! It’s been really nice to talk about the books I love and to interact with such a fun, interesting, and welcoming community.
Where do you typically write your blog posts?
I am a creature of habit so most of my posts are written while I sit on my couch at home.
How long does it generally take you to write a book review?
Typically I can write a review in 30 minutes but usually I like to let the book percolate in my head for a bit first so technically it could take longer. I have, of course, subtracted the time I spend getting distracted by my dog while trying to write a review.
When did you start your book blog?
I started Happily Ever After Book Nerd in September 2017 but I had been reviewing books for about a year before that. I’d followed a lot of blogs and always thought about starting my own but I was nervous about putting my voice and my thoughts out there. I speak in front of adults for a living but the thought of a blog was giving me stage fright.
What is the worst thing about having a book blog in your opinion?
I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I feel that I’m always tweaking the appearance and layout of my blog and posts. And because I need things to be consistent, if I change the layout I have to update it for all my posts. Each time I tell myself that’s the last change I’m making but I have yet to listen to myself.
What is the best thing about having a book blog in your opinion?
The best thing is probably interacting with other readers out there and having the chance to get my thoughts written down. I’m ALWAYS thinking about books in some way, shape, or form. Books are just that much a part of my life, so it’s nice to get some of those thoughts out of my head.
What blog post have you had the most fun writing so far?
This is hard to pick because I’ve really enjoyed a lot of my posts (does that sound narcissistic?) but I would probably have to go with Confessions of a Romance Reader because it was a lot of fun to think about. I also really enjoyed the comments I got and hearing what other readers were “confessing”. I’ve been thinking about doing a part 2 for this post but I’m still working out the details.
What is your favorite type of blog post to write?
I can’t decide! I really enjoy the reviews but it’s also fun to write the opinion posts because more of my personality can come out in those.
When do you typically write?
I work 40 hours a week so I mostly write my reviews in the evenings after dinner or sometimes I’ll take a few hours on the weekend. I typically try to work on writing 2 days out of the week, usually Tuesday and then Saturday or Sunday. When I first started the blog I was writing whenever the urge struck me and I ended up writing almost every night and that wasn’t working for me. So now I jot down my ideas and save the writing for a scheduled time.
Do you review every book you read?
Short answer: pretty much. Long answer: Occasionally I’ll pass on a review or sometimes I’ll post a few sentences to Goodreads but not make an entire blog review post about it.
How do you write your book reviews? With a cup of coffee or tea? With Netflix? Cuddled with your furbaby?
I sit in my favorite spot on my living room couch, usually with a blanket because I’m always cold. I blog on a laptop so I’ll have that and since I like a little background noise, I’ll usually stream a TV show or movie that I can watch but not really pay attention to.
When do you right your book reviews? Right after finishing the book? Two weeks after finishing the book?
Because I try to keep to a writing schedule a few days will usually pass after reading a book before a write a review. I also like to give myself time to think about the book before writing the review. Sometimes I finish a book and I’m so caught up in the story that everything seems perfect but when I let it sit for a day or two I begin to see things I didn’t like. Or after a few days I’m still SO IN LOVE and then I know that was a keeper!
How often do you post?
I try to post at least twice a week but sometimes it’s more and sometimes it’s less. I do my best not to let any pressure or guilt get associated with my blog so I try not to worry about how often I’m posting. After all, I blog for fun not as work or to make money so I want it to stay something that I enjoy.
