Ride Dirty by Laura Kaye
Raven Riders #3.5
LGBTQ Contemporary Romance

Guilt and past experiences have taught Caine McKannon to never get to close to anyone, even his brothers in the Raven Riders. When Caine saves Emma Kerry from a mugger who gets away, he blames himself for not stopping the guy. Determined to protect Emma, he hangs around to watch her house and when Emma invites him inside he reluctantly joins her. Caine is used to being a loner but the more time he spends around Emma the more wants to know what love is really like.

Ride Dirty was a great read and I really loved watching Caine find acceptance and seeing Emma support him every step of the way. I wish it was longer because I didn’t want to leave these two. While mostly a contemporary, the circumstances under which our hero and heroine meet is related to a stalker that Emma has. That being said, it’s mostly a book about their developing romance and Caine’s journey to open up and stop blaming himself for things that happened in his past. We see a little bit of the Raven Riders, in particular Dare and I wish we could have seen more of them, knowing this was the last in the series.

“You are the kind of person who gets invited in, Caine. At least, you are to me.”

Emma was one of the best heroines I’ve read in a while and I admire and respect her so much. She’s so compassionate toward Caine’s past and so open to accepting all parts of him. Caine struggles to share pieces of his past, but Emma is always there to listen and support his revelations. Every year at Christmas, Emma gives money to a charity and when she asks Caine to help her pick one that scene about killed me. It was so beautiful and emotional and when Caine reveals his bisexulaity, Emma is there to comfort and accept him every step of the way. She never judges and is always open.

Caine himself has been mostly in the background throughout the series but now that we had him front and center I really liked him. I felt so much for his past and upbringing and I wanted to spend the whole book holding him close and making everything better. Though a loner, Caine is very serious about protecting those who can’t and he refuses to let anything happen to Emma. He’s never done relationships before but he can’t stay away and once things start to get intense he goes in full throttle. Caine is a man who really knows how to love his woman.

I would be remiss if I didn’t at least mention how on fire Emma and Caine were and their chemistry about set my kindle on fire. Caine likes things rough and dirty and Emma realizes she can finally let out the desires she’s never expressed before. Together, they each find something they’ve never had before and though things move very quickly, I believed their love from the beginning.

Book Details

Caine McKannon is all about rules. As the Raven Riders Sergeant-at-Arms, he prizes loyalty to his brothers and protection of his club. As a man, he takes pleasure wherever he can get it but allows no one close—because distance is the only way to ensure people can’t hurt you. And he’s had enough pain for a lifetime.

But then he rescues a beautiful woman from an attack.

Kids and school are kindergarten teacher Emma Kerry’s whole life, so she’s stunned to realize she has an enemy—and even more surprised to find a protector in the intimidating man who saved her. Tall, dark, and tattooed, Caine is unlike any man Emma’s ever known, and she’s as uncertain of him as she is attracted. As the danger escalates, Caine is in her house more and more – until one night of passion lands him in her bed.

But breaking the rules comes at a price, forcing Caine to fight dirty to earn a chance at love.
