Reading Review: January 2018

Month in Review

For December I read 15 books and though I got a late start to the year, I feel like I made up for it in the middle two weeks. I got hung up on a few books that I struggled to finished but I also had some really great reads!

Ghost Planet by Sharon Lynn Fisher
My Review    Goodreads
A truly rich and well described world, with intriguing characters, and fascinating concepts. This was probably the most unique forbidden romance trope that I’ve read and the concept of the ghosts was really unique and it kept me hooked through the entire story, just waiting to find out more. Murphy and Elizabeth’s initial resistance creates some wonderful tension as they try to maintain distance. But once they let go, these two burn up the sheets while also being incredibly sweet and loving.

Year One (Chronicles of the One #1) by Nora Roberts
My Review  •  Goodreads
When this book was first announced, Nora Roberts declared that it would be different than anything else she had written before and from witches, to sorcerers, to shapeshifters, to elves, the world is a completely new place. I loved all the characters in this, especially Max and Lana who I would say are the “main characters” in the book. I would say, for anyone intending to read this, go in with zero expectations.

Something About You (FBI/US Attorney #1) by Julie James
My Review    Goodreads
The writing was really enjoyable, especially the witty banter between the characters. Cameron was a wonderful heroine; she’s intelligent, tough, and a dedicated woman who really seems to have her life together. It didn’t take long for me to fall for Jack and his glowering, gruff demeanor that really hides a soft marshmallow inside, at least where Cameron is concerned. Jack is very much an alpha male but he’s not obnoxious about it and in fact the few times Cameron and Jack butt heads, it’s a wonderful battle of wills. The side characters were also really enjoyable and really enhanced the story.

Retrosexual (Frisky Beavers #0)
by Ainsley Booth & Sadie Haller
My Review    Goodreads

This might have been really short but I so enjoyed the story and the characters. Stew and Adrienne were so sweet together but also still sexy even after so many years together. I loved how much Stew adored his wife and how he’s just as attracted and turned on by her as he was when they met. They have a marriage we can all dream about for our futures. We only got a quick look at the Prime Minister and his intended heroine, so I’ll look forward to reading the next in the series.
