Book series. Love them or hate them, they are a regular part of the reading world, especially in the romance genre. I happen to love reading a series where each book is about different characters because I can stay in the world I love with the characters I’m enjoying. I’m not as much a fan of series that follow the same character but there are always exceptions that I like.
The biggest problem with series is that it’s easy to get behind on reading them and when an author writes quickly and publishes frequently, you can end up with a 10 book series before you know it. So this year I’m setting a goal for myself to read and finish some of the series I’ve been meaning to read. Some are neglected series that I’ve started and didn’t finish while others are ones I’ve been meaning to read for a while. So here are some of the series that I plan to read this year.
Play by Play series by Jaci Burton – 14 books
This is my biggest goal because it’s been on my To Be Read list for a loooong time. I love sports romances and this series has them in spades. Play by Play is a perfect example of a series that just got away from me. I actually bought the first in the series a few years back but it languished on my bookshelf and now I’m way behind in the series.
Nobel Dead Saga by Barb & J.C. Hendee – 14 books
I was given Dhampir as a birthday present went it first came out and I loved it! I read the next 2 in the series as soon as they published but time got away from me while I waited for the next book and I sort of forgot about them. Now, what started out as a simple series is a massive saga of tales and I am so behind. What’s worse is that up to the point I read, there was never any resolution to the plot line and there were so many questions that hadn’t been answered yet. I’ve promised myself I will get those answers this year.
Paladins of Darkness series by Alexis Morgan – 11 books
I’ve read all the books in this series but I’ve been dying to reread them for a while. Currently there are 9 books and 1 novella and it was recently announced that a new book was coming out – 3 years after the last release. Now I’m determined to reread the series before the new one publishes so that I can re-immerse myself in this wonderful world of Paladins and Others.
Love and Football series by Julie Brannagh – 7 books
I find it so funny that I don’t watch sports in my real life at all, but I love sports romances! On my list for a long time, this series first caught my eye because I loved the covers, however, I just haven’t made the time to read them. With the tragic passing of Julie Brannagh in September 2017 I saw so much outpouring of love and appreciation for her and her writing. and this has inspired me even more to read her books.
Blasphemy series by Laura Kaye – 6 books
I’m a huge fan of Laura Kaye’s books, especially her Hard Ink series which sits on my top 5 favorite series list. The Blasphemy series are the only books by her that I haven’t read yet so I plan to finish them this year. The sub-genre of BDSM is fairly new for me, which is partly why I haven’t read these books yet but I’m looking forward to more excellent writing by Laura Kaye.
Bride Quartet series by Nora Roberts – 4 books
I started reading Nora Roberts back in high school and she has been a long time favorite of mine. However, I spent a few years not reading any of her book and needless to say I got behind. Starting in 2016 I began working my way through the books I’ve missed by her in an attempt to read everything she’s ever written. This has turned into a huge undertaking but I’m getting there, slowly but surely. Though I’ll probably read a lot by her this year, the Bride Quartet is on my must finish list.
Arcadia Bell series by Jenn Bennett – 5 books
My other reread for the year is this urban fantasy series which I enjoyed so much the first time I read it. I don’t typically read UF, but I loved Jenn Bennett’s historical/PNR romance series, the Roaring Twenties, so I wanted to give this series a shot. I’m so glad I did because they quickly became some of my favorite books. I wanted to reread them last year but that just didn’t happen. Lately, I’ve seen a few posts on Twitter of other people first discovering this series and now I’m even more excited for a reread.
What series are you hoping to read this year?
