Alpha Security operative Trey Hanson is ready to settle down. When he meets a gorgeous blonde in a bar, and the connection between them is off the charts, he thinks he’s finally found the one. But after their night together ends in a hail of gunfire and she disappears in the chaos, Trey’s reasons for tracking her down are personal . . . until he learns she’s his next assignment.

Elle Monroe never expected to see Trey again. The night they shared was incredible, but the last thing she’s looking for is a relationship. Now that it’s clear she’s being targeted, though, she has no choice but to trust this man she barely knows with her life. And Trey’s not just determined to keep her safe . . . he’s determined to win her heart.

My Review

Ex-Military and current Alpha operative, Trey, didn’t realize Elle was their new case when he met her in a bar in Thailand. Trey still feels guilt over leaving his family when he was younger, so he takes protection of the innocent very seriously. Trey used to enjoy the casual life but now he’s more interesting in actual relationships and he can’t stop thinking about Elle. Working as a disaster relief nurse in Thailand has given Elle the chance to stand on her own two feet and get some distance from her over-bearing, controlling father and ex-fiance. Ever since getting some terrible news and then finding her ex-fiance cheating on her, she’s only interested in flings where emotions don’t have to get involved.

“What we had–have–is not a one-night stand. It’s not a two-night stand, or even a three. What we have is different.”

This was a pretty good follow up to Heated Pursuit and the few things that bothered me about the first book, were much better in this one. The beginning scene where the tables are turned and it’s Trey reluctant to end the one night stand. A nicely done gender role reversal. The action is a little lighter since they’re mostly hiding out, so there’s a lot more down time for Trey and Elle to get to know each other and spend lots of time in bed. The ending was pretty cliched and I could have done without it.

Trey and Elle’s crazy hot chemistry. I mean these two were smoking and they could barely keep their hands off each other. Trey’s devotion to Elle and proving that he’s nothing like her father or ex and that he’d do anything for her. It was a little weird that we didn’t get an actual, complete sex scene until well into the last third. The heat between these two was off the charts and there was plenty of descriptive foreplay to indicate this wasn’t a typical “fade to black” romance, yet that’s what it did. I won’t lie, I would have really enjoyed reading the rest of that shower scene.
