Allegiance of Honor by Nalini Singh
I will start by saying I am a huge Nalini Singh fan and that the Psy-Changeling series is my favorite series! I was not disappointed by this book and as always, I loved Singh’s writing. Part of what I love about reading a series is getting to see characters from previous books, so I loved touching base with all the characters from this world. I’ve been reading the Psy-Changeling books from the very beginning so I love these characters. There was a lot of Lucas and Sascha in this book which was great because they are my favorite couple. And it was awesome to see a lot of their daughter Naya because we got to see some neat first time things for a changeling. Singh has really brought these characters a long way and truly developed and adapted them as the world has changed.
“Old enmities have been forgotten and there is a fragile peace…and the world stands at a critical crossroads.”
I’ve loved seeing Sascha come into her powers and learn what it really means to be an E-Psy . . . the good and the bad. Singh also did an amazing job of showing the diversity among the races in regards to how they are handling the changes. Each race has the good and the bad and no one is perfect or immune to problems.
There were some new characters and groups that were expanded on some more and I hope to see them in future books. Singh has stated that this book is like a bridge between her season 1 story arc and the upcoming season 2 story arc. So there was definitely some set up for future books here. I liked the new obstacles that Singh as place in this world and look forward to seeing how everyone will deal with them. I really hope to read more about Human Alliance leader Bowen, Faith’s half-brother, Ps-Psy Tanique, BlackSea leader Miane, her second Malachi (what is he?!) and anyone else from this interesting group of changelings. We didn’t have any of the falcons in this one but I hope they’ll show up in future books as well.
I also liked the conclusion of some of the open ended issues that have been building throughout the series. I can’t wait to continue into the next step of the Psy-Changeling journey!
4 stars – it was enjoyable
The Psy-Changeling world has undergone a staggering transformation and now stands at a crossroads. The Trinity Accord promises a new era of cooperation between disparate races and groups. It is a beacon of hope held together by many hands: Old enemies. New allies. Wary loners.
But a century of distrust and suspicion can’t be so easily forgotten and threatens to shatter Trinity from within at any moment. As rival members vie for dominance, chaos and evil gather in the shadows and a kidnapped woman’s cry for help washes up in San Francisco, while the Consortium turns its murderous gaze toward a child who is the embodiment of change, of love, of piercing hope: A child who is both Psy…and changeling.
To find the lost, protect the vulnerable—and save Trinity—no one can stand alone. This is a time of loyalty across divisions, of bonds woven into the heart and the soul, of heroes known and unknown standing back to back and holding the line. But is an allegiance of honor even possible with traitors lurking in their midst?
