Hero by Anna Hackett
Galactic Gladiators #3
Science Fiction Romance
Rory is trapped on an alien planet with no way to get back home and now she has to adjust to a new life with the House of Galen. Kace Tameron is at Kor Magna Arena for a 2 year training contract. He comes from a military planet that trains from birth to protect their people and suppress all emotions — including love.
Another enjoyable Galactic Gladiator book. Kace and Rory are a great couple and I especially liked Kace who is a soldier through and through. I loved Kace’s strong honor and loyalty and watching him learn to love and accept emotion was great. He starts out incredibly stoic and dedicated only to his training and his home planet but he can’t resist Rory no matter how hard he tries. They have some rough spots as Kace works through his issues but he eventually gets it together.
This was focused on more action outside the arena and Rory herself is not a gladiator. There was really only one arena fight and some training that Rory is working on. I really enjoy the gladiator theme so I wish there had been some more arena fights. I did enjoy seeing more of the District since we hear a lot about it. There was even an appearance of Rillian who I’m definitely curious about and hope will have his own book. We get to see some more of the other gladiators, Saff and Lore, who have been more in the background up to this point.
Anna Hackett also threw in another human — a guy this time — who was taken from the space ship and is now being forced to fight in the deadly underground arenas.

Heroine was kidnapped and held captive (referenced, on page)
Raised from birth to be a soldier, Kace Tameron is a disciplined, military-trained gladiator. He is on contract to the Kor Magna Arena to hone his fighting skills on the blood-soaked arena sand and then return to the military. He lives for one thing: to protect his planet, and on his world, love is forbidden. But then he collides with a feisty redhead from Earth who threatens to shatter his legendary control.
One moment, Rory Fraser was an engineer on a space station circling Jupiter and the next, she is abducted by evil alien slavers. After suffering at the hands of the Thraxians, she is rescued by her friends—with the help of the tough gladiators of the House of Galen. Rory finds herself outrageously attracted to straight-laced Kace. He is a skilled fighter, ultra-disciplined, and a hero at heart—but she knows passion beats within him, if only he’ll let it loose.
Rory is obsessed with finding another fellow abducted female from Earth, but as she asks questions, she finds herself ducking bullets and explosions. Someone wants Rory dead. Kace steps in as her protector, and together, they embark on a dangerous mission that will take them deep into the bowels of the arena, and deep into a scorching desire…both of which could lead them to lose not only their guarded hearts, but their lives as well.
