Shaw by Anna Hackett
Hell Squad #7
Science Fiction Romance
Shaw and Claudia have been friends since they joined Hell Squad and there’s nothing they love more than bickering with each other. Everyone else knows they like each other but Claudia is held back by a past relationship with a cheater and Shaw is sure he’ll let Claudia down, just like he did his dead sister.
This one might be one of my favorites from the series! I love the strength in both of these characters and how they learn to lean on each other. Shaw and Claudia have had quite the journey to get to this place so I was so happy to see them with each other.
The beginning was so emotional with both Shaw and Claudia holding onto the thought of reuniting in order to get through the hard times. They’ve bickered and teased since the beginning and only now, when the chance might be lost, do they realize what they have could be real. Shaw has always been a charmer, but now we got to see his softer, sweeter side as he fights to get Claudia to believe a relationship can be real between them. For Claudia’s part, she’s struggling to trust and I admire her strength of both mind and body.
I also liked the new development of Selena and can’t wait to see who she’ll fall in love with. There was also a lot more of the berserkers in this one and now I really want to read their books! I did have one thought while reading; why haven’t the humans been using any of the alien weapons? They’ve begun to incorporate some of the technology from the aliens. So it just seems like when they kill a raptor patrol, could they take and use the weapons?

Heroine was kidnapped and held captive (referenced, on page)
Hell Squad sniper Shaw Baird is a man on a mission. His squad is his family and now the invading aliens have done the unforgivable…taken one of his team. Claudia Frost—soldier, friend, and all-round badass—is running on borrowed time. Shaw has vowed to bring her home, whatever it takes…and he’s only just realizing now she’s been taken that Claudia is a vital piece of him.
Claudia Frost is surviving…barely. Kept in chains, made to fight for the aliens’ enjoyment, she can’t survive much longer. But she knows her squad is coming for her…knows Shaw is coming. Only thoughts of the sexy, charming sniper get her through the hell, and for the first time in forever, she wishes she hadn’t let the wounds of her past stop her from taking a taste of the man who is her friend, her sanity and her secret obsession.
But rescuing Claudia is only the first dangerous step. The alien keeping Claudia prisoner is far more intelligent, far more patient and a hell of a lot deadlier than any they’ve faced before. Not only is he hunting their band of human survivors through the forests of the Blue Mountains, but he wants Claudia. And he’ll let nothing get in his way.
